CBeebies returns to BBC Studios and Post Production to achieve tapeless workflow

July 2010: BBC Studios and Post Production is delighted to welcome CBeebies back to Television Centre this week.

Previously recorded at Teddington, BBC Children’s decided to return its CBeebies Presentation operation to BBC Studios and Post Production, in part, to support the production team as it utilises tapeless techniques from studio recording straight to the edit.

Along with a fully equipped studio, Studio Ten, BBC Studios and Post Production is also providing a self contained Avid edit facility and engineering support. BBC S&PP is deploying new Ingex technology. This will enable material to be ingested straight from the studio directly onto a server where it can be accessed by the local edit suite.

Resource Manager Andrew Garnett who is overseeing the technology installation says: “Having successfully used Ingex on EastEnders, we felt this was an excellent solution for CBeebies and will closely match the BBC’s Digital Media Initiative workflow plans. With a large volume of material being produced daily, this technology is more cost effective than conventional methods.”

CBeebies Editor Tim Lowe says “BBC Studios and Post Production pulled out all the stops to help us get everything in place for our return. We are really excited about the new tapeless workflows. Television Centre is a unique place and it really feels like coming home.” CBeebies presentation is in the studio up to seven days a week, with links being made for the domestic audience as well as for global channels broadcast in Africa, Poland and Latin America.
