First 3D programme at BBC Television Centre - BBC Studios and Post Production works with Twofour to create show for Sky
August 2009: Independent production company Twofour has recorded Sky’s first 3D game show, Noel’s Are You Smarter Than Your 10 Year Old? in BBC Studios and Post Productions’ Studio One at BBC TV Centre.
Studio One, the UK’s largest HD studio was selected because of its HD capability and technical infrastructure to support this project.
The recording took place partway through a 30 show run of the new series and due to the shortage of time between shows, additional vision facilities were provided by a Telegenic truck parked at the front of TV Centre supplementing the Studio One facilities.
BBC Studios and Post Production Camera Supervisor Dave Box joined the regular team especially for the 3D show. BBC Studios and Post Production Sound Supervisor Gary Clark and his team are providing 5.1 sound on the entire series including the 3D Special. The studio team are lead by BBC Studios and Post Production Resource Manager, Paul Thackray, Production Managers Tammy Calow on the 2D show and Vicki Betihavas on the 3D version with BBC Studios and Post Production Technical Developments Manager Danny Popkin supporting the studios engineering team on the 3D version.
The regular show records on 11 HD cameras , with the 3D show supplementing this with five 3D camera pairs, including 2 Super Technocranes and a Steadicam.
Following the successful 3D recording, the team was back continuing the recording of the 2D series by nine am the next morning.
The 3D Special is expected to air in 2010 following the launch of Sky’s 3D service.
