June 2009: BBC Studios and Post Production is temporarily upgrading a fourth studio to HD at Television Centre, to support the new series of Eggheads, made by 12 Yard for BBC Two.

Presented by Dermot Murnaghan and Jeremy Vine, each show sees a team of challengers take on the ultimate quiz team, made up of the countries greatest quiz show champions. The show has been re-commissioned by the BBC for a new two year deal and begins filming later this month.

BBC Studios and Post Production is the biggest HD studio provider in the South East, with three HD studios, including the UK’s largest HD studio, Studio One, at 10,000 square foot. In June all of its HD studios are being utilized, with the new BBC One Saturday night entertainment show Totally Saturday being recorded in Studio One, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross being recorded in Studio Four and 8 out of 10 Cats, made by Endemol for Channel Four, being recorded in Studio Eight. Therefore the Studios team is temporarily upgrading its Studio Three facility to HD and hiring in 8 Sony 1500 HD cameras, a vision mixer and matrix, to support Eggheads .  

This is the eleventh series of Eggheads to be supported by the Studios team at BBC Studios and Post Production and the first to go HD. Its spin off show Are You An Egghead? now in its second series and also supported by BBC Studios and Post Production, has gone HD as well. Both shows are being shown on BBC HD, which is increasing its output to 9 hours a day in 2009. Later this year Eggheads will be relocating production to Scotland where it will be filmed at the BBC’s Glasgow studios, as part of the BBC’s ongoing commitment to the nations and regions.

Eggheads series 11 will go out on BBC Two and BBC HD later this year.
